Carnell B. “Connie” Maltby, 94, of East Palatka passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Ocala Health and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.

Connie was born in Cairo, Georgia in 1923 and was a 1941 graduate of St. Andrews Parrish High School in Charleston, SC. She first moved to this area over 70 years ago, living in Hastings and helping her husband run the family farm. In retirement, she and her husband moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina and lived there for several years, returning to East Palatka in 1990 to be close to family.

Connie played the piano at Open Bible Baptist Church in East Palatka and was involved there with the children’s ministry. She enjoyed playing golf and was active in various garden clubs where her plants won several awards. She loved flowers, animals and taking care of the sick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Blankenship and Ruby Inez Sellers; her husband, Edmond Harrison Maltby, Sr.; and a son, Edmond Harrison Maltby, Jr.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Hurley Thomas of Winston-Salem, NC; a daughter-in-law, Juanita Schreiber of Crescent Beach; two grandchildren and spouses, Edmond H. “Trey” Maltby, III and wife Carla of Hastings, and Deana and David Smith of East Palatka; three great grandchildren, Trace Maltby, Aaron Maltby, and Harrison Smith; and two great great grandchildren, Grayson Branch and Jade Branch.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
