EDWARD DAVID RISCH, MD

Dr. Risch died peacefully at his home on June 22, 2018 surrounded by family and loved ones in St. Augustine, FL. after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Teresa, sons David (Tammy) Collierville Tenn.; Bob Risch (Beth) Dallas, Tex.; Kris (Tracey) St. Augustine, Fla.; Mark (Becky) Denver, Colo.; Greg (Benita) Helena, Ala., Johnathan Fordham, Islamoroda, Fla., His daughters are Pat (Steve) Ptolemy, La Junta, Colo., Margaret (Keith) Broussard, Biloxi, Ms., Valerie Risch, St. Augustine, Fla., Christine Fordham, St. Augustine, brother Michael (Gail) Risch, Omaha, Neb., Fla., mother in law Teri Smith, Palatka, Fla., 21 grand kids and 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brother in law, John (Lynn) Smith, Palatka, Fla., sister in law Libby Smith, Orlando and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Margaret Risch, Stevensville, Mich., son, James Risch and father in law, Kenneth E. Smith, Palatka, Fla.

Dr. Risch, was born in Stevensville, Michigan and raised on his family’s fruit farm. He was part of the 6th graduating class of the Air Force Academy, in 1964. David then received his medical degree from the University of Colorado in 1969. He completed his internship at Denver General Hospital, Denver and then his residency at University of Colorado Medical Center specializing in Orthopedic Surgery in 1971. David is a veteran of the Vietnam war where he served from 1971-1972. Following his tour in Vietnam he returned to Colorado and completed additional surgery training at Fitzsimmons Medical Center. He was then transferred to Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss., in 1975. He started his private practice in Biloxi, Miss. in 1979.

Dr. Risch moved to Palatka, FL in 1980, establishing a new private practice. He continued his practice seeing patients up until x days before his death. He had offices in Palatka and St. Augustine and has worked at the Flagler Hospital clinic since 2010.

Dr. Risch held medical licenses in five states and published numerous professional journal articles. He was also a member of many professional organizations including Fellow, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and medical director for five health facilities.

Dr. Risch is well known in his community and has been part of various civic or volunteering organizations. He has been a member of Rotary International for 34 years and was founding member of the Sunrise Rotary Club; he was past president of United Way of Putnam County, on the executive board of Putnam Chamber of Commerce; Board of Capital City Bank, Board of Directors and devoted member of the St. Anastasia Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Dr. Risch was especially gratified to be a member of Christianville and went to Haiti on several medical mission trips following the severe earthquake in 2010.

Whether you knew David as Dr. Risch, husband, father, grandfather, friend or patient the mark on the lives of the people he touched will never be forgotten.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 25th 5-8 p.m. at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. A funeral mass will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 27th at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in St. Augustine with Father Timothy M. Lindenfelser officiating.

I tell you the truth anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it.
