Margaret L. Maddox

Margaret L. Maddox, 76, of San Mateo, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Riverwood Center in Jacksonville following an extended illness. Margaret was born in Starke, raised in Palatka and had been a longtime resident of San Mateo. She was of the Baptist faith. Margaret enjoyed staying in touch with her family and especially taking care of her special needs daughter, Shelley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Winton P. and Wilma Woods Sumner and a sister, Bonnie McManus.

Surviving are two sons, Mark Staples of Jacksonville and Todd Staples of Ohio; three daughters and son-in-law; Tonya and Rusty Spears of Irvington, VA, Leslie Keene of Gray, GA and Shelley Staples of Irvington, VA; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Sandy Sumner of Palatka; eight grandchildren, Alyson Keene, Miranda Staples, Emily Spears, Karen Spears, Grant Spears, Brad Staples, Jeff Staples (Lawrie) and Lisa Staples and one great grandson, Jackson Staples.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Ted Rodda, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
